Lee Freedman

Lee FreedmanLee Freedman was born be involved in racing, taking out his owner-trainer license in 1983 and training his first Group One winner in 1986.

Freedman took over training of 2003 Melbourne Cup winner Makybe Diva, training the wonder mare to win another two Melbourne Cups, a Cox Plate, Australian Cup and a BMW Stakes.

Lee’s record as one of the most successful horse trainers in contemporary Australian history is indisputable. He has trained:

  • Well over 300 Stakes winners
  • Over 120 Group One winners
  • Five Melbourne Cup and four Caulfield Cup winner
  • Five Golden Slipper winners
  • Eight Derby and 11 Oaks winners
  • Two Cox Plate winners

In 2007, Lee was rated the most influential person in racing by the Daily Telegraph. Lee has had an extraordinary career in racing, yet his passion, determination and strong work ethic ensures that there are many more chapters to be written yet in the Lee Freedman history books.
